Church picnic on Sunday, August 14

By Sandy Miller, Andover Congregational Church

We hope you are enjoying your summer. It seems to fly by once we get past the Fourth of July!

The Missions Committee has been busy. Over $400 was raised from the sale of cotton candy on the Fourth. All profits will go towards the local food banks: Twin Rivers, Andover, and Danbury.

Also, the Baby Bottle collection of money for the Aspire Women’s Center in Laconia realized over $500 this year. This money helps this organization provide pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting classes, and material and spiritual support to abortion-vulnerable women, all at no cost to the client.

Vacation Bible School will be held from Tuesday, August 9, through Friday, August 12. This program is for ages four through 12 years of age. It will be held in the evenings, from 6 to 8 PM. This is to accommodate working parents who might otherwise have difficulty getting their children there during daytime hours. Call Bonnie Wesley at 735-5486 or the Church office at 735-5160 to register or for more information.

The church picnic will be held at approximately 11:30 AM at the beach area on Highland Lake following the service on Sunday, August 14. All are invited. Food will be provided – just bring a folding chair if you have one.

The Sunday School class for adults will be held at the Highland Lake Grange Hall at 8:30 AM beginning on Sunday, September 11. Robin Visser will be leading the class, and we will be studying the Book of Acts. An evening class, The Bible in 180 Days, will be held at the Grange Hall beginning on Tuesday, September 20, at 7 PM. Call the Church office to register.

Fundraising for the Highland Lake Grange Hall restoration continues. A flea market and bake sale is held on the last Saturday of every month from 8:30 AM to 2 PM at the Grange Hall. We are looking to acquire more comfortable chairs for the Grange Hall.  If you or someone you know has any padded chairs (foldable or stackable) in good condition and are looking to get rid of them, we would appreciate you letting us know.

We invite all to join us for Church service. Worship service and Sunday School for children are held every Sunday morning at 9:30 AM. There are also many small group meetings at various times during the week. Call the Church office at 735-5160 for more information.

Thought for the day: “Your companions are like the buttons on an elevator.  They will either take you up, or they will take you down.”  (Read Proverbs 13:20.)
