There is still time to sign up for art classes at the Center for the Arts (CFA), Lake Sunapee Region, in New London. The arts are an essential component of our greater community, and it is the mission of CFA to provide opportunities for all artists. The summer class schedule brings accomplished local artists together with students of all ages and abilities who want to explore art.
Gail Smuda says “No experience necessary,” for her class on Sunday, August 7. Painting in Style is a fun approach to learning about the different styles artists use.
Renowned artists like Robert O’Brien, a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society, teach classes at CFA. Robert has been painting in the watercolor medium for over 40 years. Since moving to Vermont in 1977, he has focused his work on landscape and architectural studies.
Robert is giving a two-day watercolor workshop on Friday and Saturday, August 12 and 13, entitled Painting the Many Moods and Facets of Water. Students will explore techniques from rendering a simple reflective puddle to a swift-moving mountain stream and everything in between.
If arts and crafts are more your style, then check out Jennifer Swenson’s jewelry class on Thursday, August 4. Out With the Old, In With the New will focus on how to bring new life to broken bracelets, necklaces, and beads. Jennifer will also offer a Summer Fun Earrings class on Thursday, August 18.
On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, August 25, 26, and 27, artist Barbara Danser encourages new dimensions on the way that an artist approaches a subject, both in vision and in paint application with her Abstracting the Landscape workshop. Barbara is passionate about the creative experience, which is as important to her as the finished work. She thrives on those experiences in which a rush of spontaneous energy lifts her out of the mental world into a purely creative mode. Her teaching reflects this creative spirit.
