Here’s some old news from the Andover, East Andover, West Andover, Potter Place, and Cilleyville “gossip” columns of the Franklin Journal Transcript, selected by Virginia Edwards.
Martin Feuerstein has been elected to the position of teaching principal at the Andover Elementary School.
Mr. Feuerstein is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where he received his bachelors degree. He also holds a bachelors degree from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point and has done graduate work at Plymouth State College, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Bridgeport.
He served as sixth grade teacher in Andover from 1964 to 1966 and as fourth grade teacher in Concord in 1963. Mr. Feuerstein is married to the former Pauline Kropp. They have two daughters and live in Franklin.
Schools in town will start on September 7, and the Jo Crisp Kindergarten starts on September 7 at Proctor Chapel from 9 to 11:30 AM.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heinlein entertained their grandson Pfc. Henry Heinlein Jr. of Masbeth, New York, for a few days before he left for Korea, where he will be stationed.
Wedding anniversary congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. George R. Stibitz on September 1.
Much sympathy goes to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hornbeck on the death of his mother in New York.
Mr. and Mrs. Gardner Stultz and family of Canton, Connecticut, and Mr. and Mrs. Newell Stultz and family of Providence, Rhode Island, spent last week with their folks, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Stultz.
Mr. and Mrs. Leland Thomas celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on August 23. On Sunday they and their granddaughter Linda went to Steamtown USA in Bellows Falls, Vermont, with Mr. and Mrs. Paul D. Mercier and family of Hinesburg, Vermont. Their other daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Pierce of Nashua, also made the trip.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Weinert and three children of Smith Town, Long Island, New York, have bought the Roy Healy home and will be moving in on or before Labor Day. Mr. Weinert has employment in Concord. The Healys will be moving to Keene.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph LaMontagne of Rochester called on their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Sheldon, this past week. While here, they took Mrs. Sheldon and Susan up to Montpelier, Vermont, to spend a couple of days with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Groeme.
Mrs. John Broadbent and two children of Reading, Pennsylvania, visited her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Foote, for two weeks recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Headley of Livingston, New Jersey, are having a home built on land they bought from Chauncey Foote. They will spend the summers and weekends here.
We are all sorry to hear that Mrs. Margaret Grovenor is in the Franklin Hospitäl. We all wish her a speedy recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Crane and their three children of South Bend, Indiana, are spending a week with Anna Roberts.
Congratulations go out to Mr. and Mrs. Albion “Shorty” Guptill. Shorty and Beverly Parris, daughter of Stan Parris of Franklin, were married on Saturday at the Methodist Church in Franklin. The couple will make their home on North State Street in Concord.
Much sympathy goes out to Mrs. Eula Kelley and family on the sudden death of her husband Horace.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Walker are visiting for two weeks in Nova Scotia, Canada. Gerald is on a three-week vacation from his duties at the State Prison.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schups and her sister Miss Lazarus and niece of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, called on Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stickney on Saturday while touring New England. The Schups and Stickney’s have been friends for 40 years.
Chester Sheldon is having a two-week vacation from his work on the State Highway.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baker and family and friends of Londonderry spent the weekend at their home on Tucker Mountain.
Mrs. Bess Sweatt Woodard of New London and Mrs. Elaine Eastman of town were dinner guests of Mrs. Lee Sweatt on Friday.
Jimmy Emerson made a hole-in-one at the Kearsarge Acres Country Club on Saturday. He was the only one to break this record, and all were happy for Jimmy.
Late wedding anniversary congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. Dale McLeod on August 25.
Garry George, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard George, had the misfortune recently to cut a tendon in his foot and was rushed to the Burlington General Hospital. Garry was able to return home.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Camp of Hudson, Ohio, called on friends in town this past week. The Camps were formerly of Proctor Academy.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Counter and daughter Edith Alice of Reading, Massachusetts, are visiting with Mrs. Harold Wilson. It is nice to have Mrs. Wilson back home.
State Trooper and Mrs. Richard Gayne of Penacook have moved into the house where Carl Longfellow used to live in the village. Trooper Gayne is assigned to the Andover area. We welcome them to town.
