Mary Anne Broshek on General Election Ballot

Democrat for NH House, District 1

By Mary Anne Broshek, Candidate for NH House

Many thanks to all those who came out to vote on September 13. I’m happy to report that I received 257 write-in votes in the combined tally from Andover, Danbury, and Salisbury and therefore will be on the ballot in November for State Representative, Merrimack County, District 1.

I am proud to be running, and I promise to listen to your concerns and work hard on the issues that are important to you and your families if I’m elected.

One of the things that I place great importance on is making sure that voters and legislators have factual information on which to form their opinions. There are three main national Web sites that “fact check” candidates from both sides of the aisle on their statements: PolitiFact.com, FactCheck.org, and WashingtonPost.com/news/fact-checker. I urge you to take a few minutes and check the facts when you hear a candidate’s statement that you wonder about.

It’s also important to try to learn the whole story; sometimes a candidate mentions only one piece of information and thereby gives a false impression. As an example, while it’s true that the Tax Foundation has rated New Hampshire as having the highest business tax rate in the nation, this piece of information is only one part of a larger report ranking states on their overall business climate. When four other factors are included, New Hampshire ranks seventh-best in the nation – much better than any other New England state. See the full study at TaxFoundation.org/article/2016-state-business-tax-climate-index.
