ANDOVER: January 5, 1967;

Andover Citizens fire department meeting to be held at the Fire Station on Thursday, January 5.

The Andover Congregational Church annual meeting and potluck dinner will be held in the Grange Hall on Sunday, January 8, 1967. The potluck dinner is put on by the Family Life Committee: Mrs. Harold Stickney, Mrs. Marie Rising, and Mrs. Marjorie Sheldon, will be held at 12:30 PM meeting to follow at 2 PM. Each family is asked to bring a casserole and their silverware for serving.

Andover Service Club meeting January 11 at 2 PM in the Bachelder Library.

Andover Lions Club meeting to be at Potter Place Inn on Monday, January 9.

Blackwater Grange meets Thursday January 12 at 8 PM.

Much sympathy goes to Mr. Norris MacLean on the death of his brother in New York.

Mrs. Freda Wilson had her eye operated on Friday with much success. She will be staying with her nephew, Mr. Charles Counter and his wife of Reading, Massachusettes.

Mr. and Mrs. Victor E. Phelps entertained Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jones and daughter of MacIndoes, Vermont, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Stickney and daughter of Concord, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Smith and family, James Alley, and Mrs. Eliza Buzzell for Christmas dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Phelps also called on them.

EAST ANDOVER JANUARY 5, 1967

Andover Fish & Game Club election of officers were held at the annual meeting at the club house on Tuesday, December 27. The following officers elected were, President, Edmond ‘‘Buck ‘‘ Albec; Vice President, John Rayno; Secretary and Treasurer; Charles Putney. Delegates to the Fegerators, Albec and John; Alt. Fletcher ‘‘Red’’ Pillsbury; Executive Committee; Henry Rayno, Harry Emerson, Tink Reed, Lewis Putney.

Andover Service Club meeting on Wednesday, January 11 at 2 PM in the William Bachelder Library in East Andover. Program will be the U.S.S.R. 1866.

Pvt. Wyman Ordway returned to his Fort Hood, Texas camp on Saturday. His folks drove him to Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts.

Mrs. Harold Mason is holding open house for her mother, Mrs. Maude Chandler whose 90th birthday is on Sunday, January 8 from 2 to 4 PM in Mollie Bachelder room of the library. Everyone is welcome. If you do not know Mrs. Chandler it would be a nice time to meet her.

Reports of the year were given. Getting the largest buck was Bill Taylor of Elkins, weighing in at 178 & 3/8. Second, Jim Minard of Potter Place 177 & ¼, Third, Gordon Ordway of South Danbury 153 & ¾. Smallest buck, Bobby MacDonald 68 & ¼; Largest Doe, Ervin Nelson 138 & ¼; Second, Dale McLeod 127 & ¾; Third, Bob Ford 118 & ¼; Smallest Doe; Joseph Huntoon, 93 & ¼. Average weight, Spunky Ford 120; Lucky weight, Francis Heath 119; Jackpot, Kenneth Sanborn.

An oyster stew was served by Gerald Walker.

The East Andover Volunteer Fire Company is proud to announce that the new fire truck made possible through the whole hearted support of the people of the community by their financial contributions and fun raising events by the firemen, has now been paid in full.

As the new year begins the members of the East Andover Volunteer Fire Company wish to take this opportunity to publicly thank all those whose support has made the project a success. It is the hope of the company that the need for the new fire truck will be very limited during the coming year, but that if and when emergencies arise it will be able to justify the confidence so freely expressed by the community it serves.

Mr. and Mr. Charles Barton and family spent the New Year weekend with Mrs. Connie Barton in Goffstown, New Hampshire.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew (Emma Haley) Rayno of Franklin received word on Saturday of the death of their son, Joseph Rayno in action. Much sympathy goes to them.

Much sympathy goes to Reginald Matava on the death of his mother Mrs. Charles Matava at the New London Hospital on Sunday. Mrs. Matava was making her home with her son. Mrs. Matava will be buried in Plymouth.

Mrs. Harold Grame of Montpelier, Vermont and Mrs. Chris (Mary Grame) Metakes of Keene spent Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Chester Sheldon.

Mrs. Edith Leonard and family of Montpelier, Vermont spent the New Year weekend with her parents Mr. and Mr. Herbert Young.

We are sorry to hear of the misfortune for Harold Kidder. He fractured his wrist while skating. We wish him a speedy recovery.

The Ladies Aid Work Day is to be held at the home of Marion Steuerwald on Thursday, January 12 from 10 AM to 3 PM.

ANDOVER January 12, 1967:

There will be an opportunity this week for the townspeople to inspect the new Andover Rescue Squad Ambulance, which will be on display near the center of the village at Andover on Saturday, January 14 from 10 to noon. At the post office in East Andover on Sunday January 15 from 10 AM to noon. Members of the Rescue Squad will be on hand to answer questions and explain the equipment carried in the vehicle. This is your ambulance, drop by and look it over.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Emerson of Potter Place flew to Richmond, Indiana between the holidays to visit their son, Roger. Roger wishes to be remembered to all his friends back home. Their son Jimmie of Southington, Connecticut was home and spent some time at Mt. Snow in Vermont.

Crosby-Gilbert Post 101 American Legion will meet on January 14 at Potter Place

Wallace Scott went to aid parents home on Saturday to pick up all the dolls that were given to children at their Christmas party and replaced them with safer dolls. The dolls they had were very dangerous and many thanks to all parents who cooperated in seeing these dolls returned.

Andover P.T.O meeting will be held on Monday, January 15 at 8 PM. Guest speaker will be Richard Kelley, who is the director of the Community Action in association with the Office of Economic opportunities. All are urged to attend.

Andover Lions Club skating will resume at the Proctor skating rink every Thursday from 7 to 8:30 PM. Everyone is welcomed to this skating night.

ANDOVER JANUARY 19, 1967:

The Andover Extension Club will hold its first meeting of the season on Wednesday, January 25, at 1 PM at the home of Mrs. Sterrett Sleeper. The subject, ‘‘Etiquette and Elegance” will be presented by leaders, Mrs. Sterrett Sleeper and Mrs. Amos Johnson. An interesting discussion will be followed by the showing of well-planned slides demonstrating good grooming. All women in the community are cordially invited to attend.

Andover Service Club held its meeting in the Mollie Bachelder room of East Andover Library on Wednesday, January 11 at 2 PM. President, Mrs. Kennedy opened the meeting. Mrs. Cordella Graves gave the devotions.

Twenty members and one guest were present. Reports of Secretary and Treasurer were given. A report of $475.08 was cleared on the Christmas sale. Thank you notes were read from Proctor Academy, Crotched Mountain, and Reverand Rolland Blais of the Potter Place Immaculate Conception Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gulfoy and three children of Quincy, Massachusetts, recently purchased the Gertrude Colgate home and are now living there. They have a girl in third grade, a boy in the seventh grade, and a boy in the ninth grade. We welcome this new family to town.

Mr. and Mrs. Alan Thompson called on their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Currier in Hampstead, New Hampshire, on Sunday.

Fourteen ladies gathered at the home of Miss Marion Steuerwald for a Ladies Aid work day meeting on Thursday, January 12. Sixty cancer dressings were made and sewing was done on aprons. The next sewing day will be held with Mrs. Dorothy Kimball on February 9.

A meeting of the Flaghold Community Club was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Anderson on Tuesday, January 10.

Mrs. Marion Ordway, Mrs. Bertha Keniston, Mrs. Janet Cloutier and daughter spent Tuesday January 10 with Mrs. Maxine O’Brian in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Many couples attended the East Andover Volunteer Firemen’s Annual Banquet on Wednesday, January 11 at the Potter Place Inn.

EAST ANDOVER JANUARY 19, 1967:

The annual meeting of the Andover Congregational Church was held in Highland Lake Grange Hall on Sunday, January 8 at 2:30 PM.

The Family Life Committee served a pot-luck dinner at 12:30 PM with a good attendance. The meeting was called to order by moderator, Timothy Frost. Rev. Francis Tucker gave the prayer followed by the report of the clerk.

It was voted to have Samuel Currier do janitor work at the Church School and thanks went to Bryant Adams for donating his time for the year.

A birthday dinner was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Walker on Saturday, January 7 for the Walkers daughter, Ethel Broĉk, daughter-in-law, Wanda Walker, 4 grandchildren, Wayne, Kenneth, Richard, and Marilyn Brock and Wanda’s mother, Mrs. Emily Sanborn.

Highland Lake Grange will observe their 90th anniversary on Tuesday, January 17, at 8 PM. All past Masters of Highland Lake Grange are urged to attend. All Grangers and members are welcomed.

OLDEN DAY FOOD PRICES:

ANDOVER JANUARY 26, 1967

Mrs. Ira Stickney of Concord called on Mr. and Mrs. Victor E. Phelps on Wednesday of last week on her way to Sunapee where she had a speaking engagement.

Miss Idella Farnum has left the New London Hospital and is staying with Mrs. Irene Butler at Otterville. Her mailing address is New London, New Hampshire.

Sixteen ladies of the Andover Service Club gathered at the home of Mrs. Norris McLean on Wednesday, January 18 for an all day sewing meeting. Work was done on aprons and Christmas decorations. Mrs. Grace George was the hostess.

A reminder—- The Andover Town Budget committee will hold a public hearing at the Andover Elementary School Auditorium on Thursday, February 2 at 7:30 PM.

Mrs. Irving Stultz has returned home from Hartford, Connecticut where she spent ten days with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gardner Stultz. Mr. and Mrs. Gardner Stultz are the proud parents of a baby girl born on December 29. They named her Karen Elizabeth. Congratulations go to the family.

Andover Citizens Fire Department meeting will be held at the Fire Station on Thursday, February 2.

Many thanks go to the fourth grade mothers for the refreshments, Mrs. Shirley Currier and Mrs. Elaine Cooper were the hostesses.

EAST ANDOVER JANUARY 26, 1967:

The 90th Highland Lake Grange was observed on January 17, with an attendance of 67 plus 8 State Officers.

Visitors were from Lebanon, New London, Sanbornton, Sutton, Claremont, Franklin, Danbury, Boscawen, Wilmot, Weare, Hill and Nashua.

Sunday callers at Mrs. Frank Haley and Mr. and Mrs. Noah Jewett’s were Mrs. Frank Martin of Newport and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest (Marjorie Marston) Buzzell. Mrs. Buzzell was a former teacher at the Bostonhill School-House and boarded with Mrs. Haley.

Mrs. Maude Chandler was taken to the New London Hospital on January 18. She had fallen and fractured her shoulder and remained there until Saturday and was able to return to the Tucker Home. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Mrs. Chandler was taken to the hospital in the new ambulance.

Andover Fish and Game Club meeting will be held in the Clubhouse January 31.

Gerald Walker is having a week off from his work at the State Prison.

Miss Cynthia Klotz of Lebanon spent the weekend with the Earl Kimball girls.
