Tanker Truck Runs Off Road

Road closed most of day

It’s nothing short of a miracle! On Friday morning, January 20 at approximately 10 AM, a tanker truck went off the side of Route 4, near Green Crow. The tanker was carrying 7000 gallons of fuel oil for Proctor Academy and was headed west on Route 4 when it crossed the center line and went off the road, striking several trees.Upon impact both fuel tanks on the tractor were torn off and the driver was entrapped inside the cab of the truck. Once the door was removed with the “jaws of life” the driver was able to walk to the ambulance. The driver was transported to Franklin Hospital where he was treated and released.Cory Patten’s Auto & Truck Works were called to the scene to remove the tanker. Route 4 was shut down and traffic was re-routed while the tank was offloaded and the wreckage was removed. Clean Harbors assisted in the cleanup of the fuel from the tractor, fortunately the tanker never leaked. Andover Fire, Andover Police Department, and NHDOT remained on scene until 5:45 in the evening, when Route 4 was opened again. When looking at the tractor and tanker, it is a miracle that the driver walked away. Caption: Meghan Barton, Photo: Jeff Miller
