After many months of coordination and fundraising, the Clayton Nowell Conservation Easement closed on February 14, 2017. We owe thanks to the Burton D. Morgan Foundation, The Brown Foundation Inc. of Houston, the Quabbin-to-Cardigan Partnership, the Wilmot Conservation Commission, and many other generous donors for the success of this project.
The 28-acre Nowell property has been farmed, used for maple sugaring, and managed for timber production since the late 1950’s. It also represents an important property in Wilmot because of its significant frontage along Walker Brook and the scenic views it provides from Grafton Road. Due to the many assets of the property, there would be great potential for development, if we did not protect this acreage. Thanks to all who helped to make this happen.
