When and where is the vote for the project?
The vote is on Monday, March 6 at 7 PM, at the AE/MS gymnasium. Please bring a photo ID to vote.
What if I have a child at home to care for during that time?
Babysitting will be available at school for children of all ages for any parent or guardian who needs it for the duration of the meeting. Teachers will show age appropriate videos, provide board games, arts and crafts activities, and the technology lab will be open. Children are welcome to make it a “pajama night.”
When is the last time AE/MS had a significant upgrade?
A quarter of a century ago in 1992.
How has this project been vetted?
The Facilities Task Force, a diverse group of Andover residents, prioritized the findings outlined in the AE/MS Facilities Study over the course of a year in nine public meetings, during which they narrowed the scope of the project to focus on AE/MS’ most important needs. The ASD Board accepted their recommendation last June, and presented the project for public review and feedback on November 1, December 6, and at the January 18 public hearing. Following the January public hearing, the Andover Budget Committee recommended passing the article for this project.
Can the project be broken up in a piecemeal fashion?
It can, but it would not be financially responsible to do so. Since the work has been pared down to what is most necessary, disentangling it would add an estimated additional 20% to the cost of items accomplished separately.
What is the impact on property taxes?
At the 15-year bond rates most currently available, the impact is approximately $1.18 per $1,000 of assessed property valuation. It is important to know that interest rates fluctuate and that the ASD Board is investigating other funding scenarios as well.
If the project passes, who will do the work?
As with any significant project, the work will go through a bidding process. Local contractors would be encouraged to apply!
