Serious runners, casual competitors, and avid walkers should mark their calendars for the Wilmot Community Association’s (WCA) 13th Annual Black Fly Blitz 5K starting at 9 AM on Memorial Day, May 29 in Wilmot Flat.
Participants can pre-register online, by mail, or register on the day of the race. Online registration closes at noon Friday, May 26 and is available at WilmotCommunityAssociation.org. Mail in pre-registration is due at noon on May 26. A downloadable entry form can be found on the WCA’s Web site. Avoid the rush and register by May 1 to receive a free Black Fly Blitz T-shirt.
“To encourage more people to participate, we have lowered the cost of entering the race in the adult category,” said Marc Davis, a member of the Black Fly Blitz Committee. Until May 26 race registration is: free for children 8 years and younger, $15 for youths 9 to 17, and $20 for adults 18 and older. On race day registration will increase by $5. Check in and race day registration opens at 7 AM Monday, May 29 under the tent on the town green at the intersection of Kearsarge Valley and Village roads in Wilmot Flat.
The 5K scenic course is a clockwise loop that starts on Village Road and continues on Shindagan Road, to Cross Hill Road, to Campground Road, and then to Village Road. It is a relatively flat course over slightly undulating terrain. Water will be available at the mid-point of the race. Runners will receive free beverages and snacks after the race. The Cloud Duo will play classic rock and country music. Activities for children will include temporary tattoos and games.
Awards will be presented at 10:15 AM at the Wilmot Bandstand, on the Town Green next to the Wilmot Town Office building, 9 Kearsarge Valley Road.
