The final total for Dollars for Scholars from the Town of Andover is $769.50. The sum of $384.75 each went to New London High School and to Franklin High School. Andover P.T.O. gave $200.00; Andover Service Club gave $200.00; Proctor Council of Student Government gave $100.00; Blackwater Grange gave $25.00; and the sum of $244.50 was solicited by students and three adults.
Wedding anniversary congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wheeler on June 1st; and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Powers Jr. on June 3rd.
The Andover Extension Club recently held its last meeting of the season at the William Adams Bachelder Library in East Andover with ten members and three guests present. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Mrs. Clyde Currier, Chairman; Mrs. Starrett Sleeper, Co-Chairman; Mrs. Don Buswell, Secretary and Treasurer; Mrs. Amos Johnson, Publicity.
Memorial services were held on Monday, 29th with Evan Snyder as Master of ceremonies. Mrs. Glaubit was the music director.
Rexford B. Sherman, a history major, graduated from the University of Maine Saturday where he received an advanced degree.

A young city girl was vacationing in the country and became friendly with a farm boy. One evening as they were strolling across a pasture they saw a cow and a calf rubbing noses in the accepted bovine fashion.
“You know,” said the young man, “that sight makes me want to do the same.”

Andover Arts and Craft meeting on Monday, June 12, in the Mollie Bachelder room of the East Andover Library.
Andover Service Club will hold their luncheon at the Woodbine Cottage in Sunapee on Wednesday, June 14, at 1 PM. Any member needing transportation may call Mrs. Marjorie Stultz, hostess. The annual meeting will be held after the luncheon. This will be the last meeting till fall, we are hoping for a good attendance.
Crosby-Gilbert Post 101 American Legion will be held on June 15.
Ragged Mt. O.E.S. chapter are planning a rummage sale on June 9 and 10 in Franklin.
The July 4th Committee spent the evening in the Selectman’s office with a good attendance. Plans are under way for a grand day with all organizations taking part in the parade.
Mrs. Nancy Barrett, welcomes any child who wishes to decorate his or her own bike, may use her barn and she is willing to help any of the children.
Miss Vera Holmes of Boscawen, Mrs. Alice Perreault of Salisbury, and Miss Eleanor Morrill attended Proctor Commencement Luncheon and Alumni meeting. Being a class of 1909, they were awarded a Proctor Plate because they were the oldest class present.

The Ladies Aid annual food sale held June 3rd, was a great success. Those on the committee were Mrs. Harold Stickney, Chairman; Mrs. Chester Sheldon; Mrs. Frank Downes; and Mrs. Gerald Walker. Many thanks go to all who contributed food.
East Andover Volunteer Fire Department will meet at the fire house on Wednesday, June 14, for their monthly meeting.
Wedding anniversary congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Poblenz on June 14. It is a pleasure to see Frank out and about again.
Mrs. Luvie Merrill is asking for men’s clothing for the patients at the County Hospital in Boscawen. Also shoes and socks are needed. They may be left at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rising.
Mr. and Mrs. John Graves were in Fitzwilliam at the home of W. H. Davis to attend the class reunion for the class of 1917 from Proctor Academy. There were 7 graduates plus their wives and husbands. John Graves graduated from Proctor, 50 years ago.

Country Belle Dance Hall, Route 3 Newfound Lake, where the “Action Is” Friday night, June 9, Music by “The Fabulous Tidal Waves”, Saturday night, June 10 the popular “Ampegs”.

The Fourth of July Committee held a meeting at the Selectman’s office, with a good attendance. Plans are well under way for a grand Fourth with all organizations taking part in the parade, plus many other groups that are participating.

It was announced that the Sanbornton Band will furnish the music. A ball game is planned between Plymouth and Franklin.
George and his Hayshakers will hold a dance in the school gym. Also reported, that turtles are needed and may be left with Noah Jewett.
Blackwater Grange will meet at the grange hall Thursday, June 22 for their meeting.
Andover Lions club meets Monday, June 26.
Andover Elementary schools close for the summer on June 14.

Ladies Aid will meet in the Mollie Bachelder Room of the Library for a regular evening meeting on Thursday, June 22 at 8 PM.
Governor Bachelder night was observed at the June 6 meeting with around eighty members and guest present. The meeting was opened by candlelight services with New London Grange filling the chairs. The program consisted of all singing. New Hampshire State Master, Carl S. Adams showed pictures and spoke about Ex-Governor Bachelder, a native of town and Past Master of Highland Lake Grange, and Past State Master. Musical selections of piano and horn played by Mr. and Mrs. Goodrich. A poem by Mrs. Marie Rising. Dancing by Pat Lovering and a game was played.

The Andover Service Club meeting and luncheon was held at the Woodbine Cottage in Sunapee on Wednesday, June 14, with 28 members and guests. The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Francis Kennedy. Mrs. Dorothy Dunn gave the devotion followed by a silent prayer. Mrs. Florence Wyeth reported the layette had been given to the Child Welfare Department in Concord, and it is hoped to have two layettes for another year. Mrs. Clara Jones reported on White Mapies in which gifts were given on birthdays, Christmas, etc.
Cheryl Reed, daughter of Mrs. Robert Addario of Bradley Lake and Rex Kidder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kidder of Chase Hill, East Andover received the Andover Lions Club 1967 Award for the Highest Degree of Citizenship and Scholastic Achievement. These two students are from Andover Elementary School.
Miss Donna Keyser daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Keyser and a sophomore at Franklin High School in the fall had nine consecutive years of not being absent from school. Congratulations to you Donna.

Death Notices:
William A. MacAlpine 86, passed away at his home Tuesday night after a long illness. A native of Lee, Massachusetts, he was born May 25, 1881, the son of Alexander and Margaret (Elliott) MacAlpine. He lived here for the past two years and formerly resided in Canada and Melrose, Massachusetts. He was a member of the Joseph Webb Masonic Lodge of Boston and the Episcopal Church in Melrose. A florist by occupation he worked out of the Boston Market and for the Greengrowers of Exeter, New Hampshire.
Members of the family include his wife, Mrs. Katherine (Dodge) MacAlpine; two sons, William A. MacAlpine Jr. and Arthur D. MacAlpine, both of Sherburn, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Burial will be Friday, June 23, at 2 PM in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester, Massachusetts, where services will be held.
Mrs. Marie Rising received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Keene Teachers College recently.
Many parents and friends attended Franklin High School Graduation Exercises on Saturday evening at Franklin High School. Students from town graduating were: Linda Kimbal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kimball; Earl Kidder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kidder; Nancy and Drucilla Keniston, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. James Keniston; Joy Keyser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Keyser; Irene Stacey, daughter of Mrs. Irene Stacey and the late William Stacey; Mary Shampney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Shampney; Emile and Brian Shaw, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Hale Shaw.
An East Andover girl escaped serious injury Saturday afternoon when she was struck by a motorcycle as she walked along Route 11. According to the report filed by the New Hampshire State Police, Cheryl Whitcomb, 15 daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whitcomb of Flag Hill Road was walking along the side of Route 11 when a motorcycle, operated by Ronald Cayer, 19, of LaSalle, Quebec approached from the opposite direction. As he neared the girl the driver had his motorcycle in a turn that was too wide for the curve he had to maneuver. As he applied his brakes to check the turn, the machine skidded off the right side of the road, striking the girl and taking her and the driver down the embankment.
The police report listed both as injured, Cheryl Whitcomb, with abrasions to her right leg, and Ronald Cayer with a broken right leg and abrasions to the right hand. They were taken to Franklin Hospital by the Andover Rescue Squad Ambulance and both were released.
Rufus Stacey, son of Mrs. Irene Carney received his B.S. Degree in Education from Keene Teachers College. Rufus will be working in Keene for the summer.
A meeting of the North Road Community Club was held in the Clubhouse on Tuesday, June 13, with Chairman, Max Andrus presiding. It was reported that fifty-three hundred and eighty pounds of paper was taken to Hopkinton Paper mill and more is being collected to make up another load in the near future.
Mrs. Elizabeth Miller, a Franklin High School teacher was honored by having the year book dedicated to her. She was the yearbook adviser. Congratulations go to Mrs. Miller.
Gerald E. Hersey who is majoring in Machine Shop at the New Hampshire Vocational Institute received honorable mention on the honor roll for the spring semester.

Don’t forget the Gala Fourth of July Celebration coming up Tuesday. The project is now more than 20 years old. No one remembers the exact year when it started. It was sometime during World War II, when so many of the younger men were away in service that things back home were rather quiet and social activities were at a minimum. Someone suggested the idea of arranging a modest celebration in Andover village as a means of entertaining the younger generation, and from that small beginning it has grown each year to its present stature as the big all-town event of the year.
Miss Andover Queen Candidates: Andover feels pretty proud to be able to have a candidate for Queen in the New London Hospital Days on August 8 with Mrs. Jo Crisp, Chairman for Andover district. Candidates for Queen are: Miss Sherl Keyser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Keyser, Jr. of Andover Plains; Miss Irene Stacey, daughter of Mrs. Irene Carney of East Andover; Miss Marsha Kimball, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kimball of East Andover; Miss Beryl Gove, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gove of West Andover; Miss Ruth Eichells, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Eichells of Potter Place; Miss Nancy Burney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Burney of East Andover; Miss Patty Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wilson of Proctor.
Gerry Peters, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peters has held perfect attendance for three years in a row at the Andover Elementary School. Congratulations go to you Gerry.
Mr. and Mrs. Grant H. Charles attended the one hundredth ninth Commencement exercises at Penn Yan Academy in New York State on June 24, when their son, Ralph S. Charles, 3rd, graduated. Congratulations.

Death Notices:
Mrs. Florence M. (Perkins) Oliver of East Andover passed away Friday at the Pawtucket, Rhode Island Memorial Hospital following a month’s long illness. Mrs. Oliver had resided at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kathleen I. Rex of Pawtucket for the past ten months. She was the wife of the late Harold W. Oliver.
Born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, Mrs. Oliver was the daughter of the late Charles and Prudence Perkins. She has been a New Hampshire resident for the past 17 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Boston, Massachusetts. Graveside services were held at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Warner, New Hampshire.
Elaine Graves was one of the 10 who graduated from Franklin High School fifty-five years ago, on June 18, 1912. Elaine was an honor student and there were only 10 in her class, three girls and seven boys.
Congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Stacey who were married on Saturday in Keene. Rufus married Sandy Cowland of Keene.
A son was born June 24 to Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Stebbins of Natick, Massachusetts. David Mark is the great grandson of Mrs. Ruth Keyes, making 5 generations. Mrs. Mande Sweet of Franklin, Mrs. Ruth Keyes of Andover, Mrs. Ruth Stebbins of Webster, New Hampshire, Arnold Stebbins, and son David Mark.
