The Andover Hub is about to open its newly-painted bright red doors for programming. Due to the strong interest in physical fitness expressed by respondents to the survey of residents conducted earlier this year, initial offerings will include several fitness classes. Yoga and Tai Chi classes will begin in September, with the possibility of ballroom dancing, zumba and maybe karate for kids as the fall progresses. The Hub is located at 157 Main Street, in what used to be Andover’s original town hall.
An open house on Saturday, September 9 from 10 to 11 AM will provide an opportunity to meet the teachers, learn a bit about the scheduled and possible classes, and to see the space where classes will be held. Folks can register for any of the classes at that time or by contacting the teachers directly ahead of time. Drop-ins are also welcome in all of the classes.
The current line-up is as follows:
Mondays – four-week “FUN-damentals of Yoga” series beginning September 11, 8:15-9:30 AM, $40/series, $15/session
Tuesdays and Thursdays – ongoing Bone Builders class beginning September 12, 9-10 AM, free of charge
Wednesdays – four-week “FUN-damentals of Yoga” series beginning September 13, 11 AM-12:15 PM, $40/series, $15/session
Thursdays – six-week “All-levels Gentle Hatha Yoga” series beginning September 21, 6-7:15 PM, $72/series, $15/session
Saturdays – four-week “Beginner’s Tai Chi” series beginning September 30, 9-10 AM, $30/series, $8/session
Further details follow:
FUN-damentals of Yoga will be taught by Andover resident Coleen Vaughn. Designed for the beginner, for those with injuries and other body conditions, seniors or expectant mothers but experienced yoga students also welcome. Additional classes will follow later in the fall. For information and to register, contact Coleen at coleenvaughn@nullgmail.com or www.culturedvitality.com.
Gentle Hatha Yoga will be taught by Wilmot resident Kristen Nesbitt and welcomes all levels of yoga experience, for ages 16 and up. Pre-registration is required. Kristen will also offer monthly Sunday morning yoga workshops with a variety of focuses. Participants can contact Kristen for more information and to register at kristengnesbitt52@nullgmail.com or at www.backroadsyoga.com.
Beginner’s Tai Chi will be led by Marcia Wyman of Inner Peace Tai Chi in Concord. While Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art, it is primarily practiced today for its health and exercise benefits through low-impact, slow movements that enhance strength and balance. The series may continue beyond four weeks if there is interest. For more information, contact Marcia at NESAInc@nullaol.com.
Bone Builders is described elsewhere in this issue of The Andover Beacon. For more information about The Andover Hub, to be added to a mailing list for announcements of upcoming events, and for anyone interested in teaching a class, contact AndoverCommunitySpace@nullgmail.com.
