Dogs that are unaccompanied and are picked up by the Andover Police are reunited with their owners if the dog has an identification tag or an up-to-date rabies vaccination tag on it’s collar. If there is no ID tag on the dog, Andover’s policy is to take the dog to Pleasant Lake Veterinary in Elkins near Pleasant Lake. There the dog can be scanned for microchip ID. If no ID is found, the dog will be held for 7 days at which point the clinic will begin looking for a new placement.
A good place to start your search if your dog becomes lost is “Granite State Dog Recovery”. They have a Website and Facebook page.
Be aware that if you call the Andover Police, you will most likely be connected to Franklin Dispatch, which answers the phone as “Andover Police”. This is important to know because if an Andover officer picks up your dog, dispatch may be unaware and will not have information that is helpful.
The best thing to do if your dog is missing with no ID tags or microchip, is to call Pleasant Lake Veterinary at 526-6976, or go online to “Granite State Dog Recovery” and provide a good picture of your dog or pet.
