Haven H. Hayes, 33 degree, P.D.D.G.M., age 82, of Barrington, N.H., passed away at Bellamy Fields Assisted Living in Dover on Sunday, October 15, 2017, with his wife by his side. Haven worked at the University of New Hampshire for 42 years, retiring in 1995. He was a long-time advisor to Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and was a charter member of the McGregor Ambulance Corps in Durham, N.H. Haven was a 57-year Master Mason, a Past Worshipful Master of Rising Star Lodge #47 in Newmarket, N.H., and served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 1st Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire. Haven was a member of Scottish Rite, receiving the 33rd Degree in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1991. He was also a member of several other Masonic organizations in New Hampshire and Maine. Haven liked traveling with friends and family. He drove to Alaska with his roommate in 1960 and returned there in 1970 and 1979. He especially enjoyed wilderness canoe trips with his ‘canoe buddies.’ Haven is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Rising Hayes, of Barrington, New Hampshire; his son, Travis C. Hayes, of Madbury, New Hampshire; his sister, Sylvia Grimes; a niece, Jody Grimes; and a nephew, Terry Grimes. The family is grateful for the caring staff at Bellamy Fields and Cornerstone VNA.
