Derek James Godwin, 26, died on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

Derek was born on May 10, 1991, in Stoneham, MA, the son of James C. Godwin of Reading MA and Jacqueline A. (Sassano) Godwin-Lanzillo of Chester, NH. Derek was the loving older brother to Christopher and Rachel Godwin. He is also survived by his grandparents, Aurora and Robert Sassano of NY, and Brenda Godwin of NH. He was loved and will be deeply missed by his girlfriend Danielle and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Derek grew up in Reading, MA and as a child was heavily involved in sports including soccer, baseball, and hockey. During the past few years, Derek lived in Andover, NH and Lebanon, NH where most recently he was employed as a sales representative for Verizon Wireless. Derek was passionate about dogs, particularly his beloved Brady and Schilling. He enjoyed playing cards, chess and snowboarding. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed following his fantasy football leagues. Derek was a kind and loyal friend with a great sense of humor. He touched many people who will miss him greatly.

SERVICES: A Memorial Service will be held on December 27, 2017 at St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St, Reading MA at 10 AM. followed by a gathering in the Parish Center.
