The fall trimester at Proctor saw local students thrive on the athletic fields for the Hornets. With thirty-six Andover residents enrolled at Proctor, a remarkable twenty competed at the varsity level during the fall season.
Proctor’s boys’ varsity soccer team, in particular, was a bastion of local talent with 13 of its 22 members as day students, including seven former Andover Eagles (Ryan Methven ‘19, Jack Newton ‘19, DJ Rankins ‘19, Finn Weber ‘18, Luke Weber ‘18, Myles Powers ‘19, and Nelson Makechnie ‘19). The team narrowly missed a bid to the New England tournament finishing at 9-3-3, and went undefeated at home, giving up just one goal on their home field all season. Andover’s Luke Weber earned the team’s Coaches’ Award, while New London’s Patrick Lewis earned All League honors.
Proctor’s girls’ varsity soccer team also featured four Andover students as Katelyn Barton ‘18 played on the varsity squad for her fourth straight year (10th varsity letter overall), James Southworth ‘21 played valuable minutes on defense, Vienna Marcus ‘20 rarely stepped off the field as a stellar defender (and Coaches’ Award recipient), and Hailey Makechnie ‘19 anchored the midfield while also being recognized with the Marvin Award given each season to a new student who makes a significant impact through leadership and ability on his or her team.
