Will speak about Andover's Richard Potter

By Steve Foley

Andover resident and author, John A. Hodgson, will be speaking about his new book, Richard Potter: America’s First Black Celebrity at a special event sponsored by Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire in Portsmouth on Sunday, March 4.
Hodgson’s new book, on the life of former Andover resident and showman, Richard Potter, is available for preorder on Amazon and will be generally available in February.
The Portsmouth event is coupled with a living history performance featuring magician Bob Olson, who has made a career of reenacting Potter’s magic show. Olson was associated with Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts for many years. Olson has performed in Andover on several occasions, including the Andover Historical Society’s annual Old Time Fair.
The event begins 12:30 PM with a tour of the Portsmouth Music Hall, followed by the Living History Performance at 2 PM.  At 2:30 PM, John Hodgson will make his presentation, followed by Q&A and book signing.
