SUNAPEE – Elizabeth J. “”Betty”” (Richard) Shea, R.N., 87, of Sunapee, and formerly of Plaistow, died Sunday, January 28 at New London (NH) Hospital.
Born, raised and educated in Haverhill, MA, daughter of the late Henry V. and Dora (Quinn) Shea, she was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1948 and received her degree in Nursing in 1951 from the Saint John’s Hospital School of Nursing, Lowell. She worked as a Maternity Nurse for twenty years at the former Hale Hospital in Haverhill, MA.
A resident of Plaistow for sixty-four years, Mrs. Shea was a member of Mary Mother of the Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish of Newton and a member of the parish choir and a former accompanist for weekend Masses. She was also a twenty year member of the Committee for Plaistow Cub Scout Pack 18.
Mrs. Shea enjoyed knitting and was a blue ribbon winner at the Topsfield, MA; Deerfield, NH; and Fryeburg, ME fairs and shared her knowledge and love of the craft by holding classes at the Plaistow Library and the Haverhill Senior Center, MA. She enjoyed music, especially patriotic marches, and was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. She enjoyed traveling, long trips by car and a moment’s notice and hosting the Shea Family Cookouts and other celebrations at her home on Main St.
Predeceased by her husband, Henry M. Shea, in 2015 and her son, Michael H. Shea, in 1994, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by a daughter Anne E. Yates, of Andover, NH, grandchildren, Jennifer A. Richardson and her husband Alan of Bradford, NH, and Matthew S. Shea of Plaistow, a great granddaughter E. Paige Richardson of Bradford, NH, and nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sister Arlene Chandler.
SERVICES: Relatives and friends are invited to Mrs. Shea’s Life Celebration to be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. Her funeral will begin on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Mary Mother of the Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, 12 Amesbury Road, Newton, NH. Burial will follow in Saint James Cemetery, Haverhill, MA. Donations in her name may be made to the Plaistow Firemen’s Association, Elm St., Plaistow.
