Dorothy Mitchell Lull, long-time resident of Potter Place, died March 7, 2013 at the Veteran’s Home in Tilton.
Born in 1923 in Lynn, Massachusetts, the daughter of Dr. Frank A. Mitchell and Edith (Lister) Mitchell, she was raised in Grafton, New Hampshire and graduated from Canaan High School in 1941. Answering the call to serve her country, she enlisted in the US Navy in 1943, stationed in Oakland, California, and serving as a nursing assistant. Upon leaving the service she married Gordon “Hi” Lull, and together they owned and operated Emmons General Store in Potter Place. Upon his death in 1976, she inherited the duties of Postmaster for Potter Place and continued in that capacity until it closed in 1988.
In retirement, “Dot” was busy meeting the needs of others in town, cooking, cleaning, running errands, and visiting the homebound. For years she served as a deaconess in Danbury Christian Church and was active in church ministries.
She was a committed Christian, devoted wife, and a loving mother to her three children and Grammy to her three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her other loves included dogs, little children, and eating lunch with friends. Family and friends will remember her for her sense of humor and her quiet love for God and others.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Gordon and is survived by three children: Gordon Lull of Tehachapi, California, Greg Lull of Henniker, and Jackie Edes of Concord; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on March 16 at the Valley Bible Chapel in Hillsboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Concord SPCA.
