Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum Opens on May 1

Native American containers on display

Press release

Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum opens on Wednesday, May 1, with a new exhibit about “Containers.” Bark, marsh-plant fiber, ash splint, gourd, cattails – these are some of the materials that have been skillfully and artfully twined, woven, carved, folded, or sewn into the containers in the 2013 season’s first exhibit “Containers” in the Contemporary Art Gallery from May 1 through July 14.

“Containers” will focus on connecting the works of art, such as Judy Dow’s “Gourd Basket Full of Dreams” and Vera Longtoe Sheehan’s “Five-Color Twined Bag,” to the plants from which they have been made. Artists Jeanne Kent, Liz Charlebois, Lina Longtoe, Jennifer Lee, and Julia Marden will be featured as well. At 18 Highlawn Road in Warner, admission to the art gallery is free.
