Robert E. Hamilton, Jr.
“We are, all of us, molded and remolded by those who have loved us; and though the presence of their love may pass, we remain none-the-less their work – a work which they very likely do not recognize and one which is never exactly what they intended. No love and no friendship ever crosses the path of our destiny without leaving some mark upon us…forever.”
Robert E. Hamilton, Jr. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 1, of parents Robert E. Hamilton and Dorcas Damon Hamilton. He had two siblings: Joan Blaisdell-Gaumer (deceased) and Dr. Dorcas Cofer-Cohen of Kennebunk, Maine.
After attending Proctor Academy in Andover, NH, Bob gradutated from Dartmouth College and served in the U.S. Army. He married Elizabeth Worrell (deceased) of Providence, Rhode Island and they had four wonderful children.
Bob approached life as a quiet, proud, kind and gentle man with strong work ethics and high moral standards and principles. After graduating from Dartmouth, he worked in the insurance industry and developed early computer programs before he entered the merchandising/retail industry. Among other endeavors, Bob managed retail and design operations for Design Research, the American Institute of Architects and the Museum of Fine Arts, and he owned a home design store in Boston.
Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease more than twenty years ago, and passed away peacefully on February 15, 2018. He is survived by a sister; his four children: Damon, Christopher, Heather and Sarah, all of Rhode Island; many grandchildren and nieces and nephews; and his life partner of 38 years, Kenneth Reid of Andover, NH. As Bob requested, there will be no services, and his life will be celebrated by family members in the spring. Contributions in his honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
