The Andover Fish and Game Club (AF&G) held the Willis Nowell Memorial Kids Ice Fishing Derby this year on February 23. It was a nice day on Eagle Pond in Wilmot, and 33 kids and their families were ready to have some fun. Besides fishing, the kids were treated to free hot dogs and drinks, lucky prizes, and trophies for the longest fish. Seventeen pickerel and six perch were caught. Trophy winners for each type of fish were:
Pickerel
- Logan Farley, 19 3/4”
- Nathaniel Hatch, 18 1/8”
- Marcus Gamblin 17 1/8”
- Astoria Campbell 16 1/2”
Perch
- Logan Heino, 11 5/8”
- Miles Hurlbutt, 9 1/8”
- Jason Lewis, 9”
The AF&G would like to thank this derby’s sponsors, Jake’s Market of Andover, Smith River Trading Post of Danbury, and the Park & Go Market in Wilmot, for providing supplies. We would also like to thank everyone who attended the derby and our other fundraising events throughout the year, all of which make it possible for us to host the kids fishing derbies and other community activities.
Rabies Clinic
There are two upcoming events in the spring. The AF&G will be hosting a Rabies Clinic at the East Andover clubhouse on Channel Road on Saturday, April 20, from 1 to 2 PM. The cost is $13 per pet.
The Kids Spring Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, May 18 on the Highland Channel. More information will be provided for these events in the next issue of the Beacon.
