Foxtrot for Beginners
Starting Monday, September 3, 6-7PM
Natalie Mavor Miles will teach this workshop on four consecutive Monday nights from 6:00-7:00PM at Whipple Hall, 429 Main Street, New London, starting September 3. The Foxtrot is the dance of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. $40 single, $80 per couple, no partner required. This smooth and elegant dance is extremely versatile and can be danced to a variety of musical styles. It is the easiest smooth dance and is popular with beginners and advanced dancers alike. Beginner’s Watercolor – Step by Step
Starting Tuesday, September 25, 6-8PM
Debbee Skinner will teach the basics of watercolor painting in this 4-week workshop held on Tuesdays from 6-8PM at Whipple Hall, 429 Main Street, New London, starting September 25. Students will complete a sampler of techniques and an individual painting while enjoying a retreat of soothing music, tea and quiet company. Painting techniques including washes, glazing, dry brush and wet on wet applications will be demonstrated. Students will learn how to stretch paper and the essentials of color mixing. You will be guided through techniques to help you understand light and shadow, value and composition while working from your own reference or one provided for you. Exploring Pastels
Starting Wednesday, October 3, 1-2:30PM
Instructor Jonathan Rose will focus on still life subject matter in this 4-week workshop on Wednesdays from 1-2:30PM at Whipple Hall, 429 Main Street, New London, starting October 3. Students will be encouraged to come up with their own unique interpretation of the subject in front of them. There will be a short presentation on related work by other artists at the beginning of class and a supportive critique at the end. The class is open to all levels. Camera Basics

Photographer Larry Harper will show how to take outstanding pictures with the right camera settings, right composition, and right lighting. Learn tricks the pros use. Learn tricks the pros use. Rumba for Beginners

The Rumba is often referred to as the “dance of love”. Natalie Mavor Miles will teach this workshop on four consecutive Monday nights from 6:00-7:00PM at Whipple Hall, 429 Main Street, New London, starting October 8. Must be 18 or older, $40 single, $80 per couple, no partner required. The Rumba is danced to slow, romantic music with a Latin beat. Rumba is derived from the Afro-Caribbean dance “Son” and has been popular in this country as a ballroom dance since the 1930’s. No experience necessary. Composition and Lighting

Waltz for Beginners

The Waltz grew out of the Germanic dances of the 17th and 18th century. Natalie Mavor Miles will teach this workshop on four consecutive Monday nights from 6-7PM at Whipple Hall, 429 Main Street, New London, starting November 5. Waltz was the first dance in which the man and lady danced with body contact and was considered quite scandalous in its day. Waltz is characterized by a lovely rise and fall action. Making the Ordinary Extraordinary – Painting Light in Watercolor
Wednesday, November 14 and Thursday, November 15, 9AM-3PM
Robert O’Brien will lead this 2-day workshop on how to paint” the light”, held at Whipple Hall, 429 Main Street, New London, Cost: $200. Explore techniques on how to achieve spectacular light effects from ordinary images through the use of light and shadow. Subject matter will range from landscape, flowers, to close focus studies of architectural and agricultural motifs. Composition and values will be explored in this workshop. All levels of painting ability are welcome. Students will work from photo reference. Some drawing experience is recommended. There will be a critique and class discussion at the end of the workshop. Cha Cha for Beginners

Natalie Mavor Miles will teach this workshop on four consecutive Monday nights from 6:00-7:00pm at Whipple Hall, 429 Main Street, New London, starting December 3. The “Cha Cha” was introduced to the United States in the early 1950’s and promptly sparked a dance craze. Cuban in origin, the Cha Cha evolved from a slow version of Mambo called “Triple Mambo”. It is a fun, flirtatious dance which emphasizes Cuban Motion and rhythm expressed throughout the body. No experience necessary. Must be 18 or older, $40 single, $80 per couple, no partner required.
