By Larry Chase USUALLY HARD TO SEE because of its protective coloration (natural camouflage), this American Bittern made an unusual appearance one September afternoon in the little pond beside Barton’s Performance auto repair service on Route 11 in East Andover. The bird is a relative of the Great Blue Heron, which often hangs out more visibly in the same pond. Great Blue Heron (cousin of the American Bittern) visits the pond near Barton Performance a day after the Bittern.
