2nd Town Wide Yard Sale a Big Success

By Meghan Barton, Andover Emergency Services Auxiliary President

The second annual Andover Emergency Services Auxiliary, Town Wide Yard Sale went great!  We were thankful for the perfect weather we received! Our goal of beating our 2017 yard sale was met!  We fundraised more this year than last, which blew us all away! We were lucky enough to have 34 families who supported our efforts in putting their address on the map!

Many started their morning at the fire station with our coffee and homemade baked goods, made from our auxiliary. A great big thank you to Brothers Donuts for their donation!  With a map in hand, we had happy customers on the road and ready to shop the bargains.

This year was our first year in asking our local businesses to advertise on our map.  We were thrilled with the response we received! Our sincere thanks goes out to these businesses;

Andover Fire Department Andover Hub    Bar Harbor Bank and Trust
Belletete’s, Inc of Andover Brother’s House of Smoke Byron’s Septic Service
Coldwell Bank Lifestyles Franklin Septic Service Frost Building Construction
JJ’s Market and Deli John Whyte Logging Lake Farm Reality
Mark E. Thompson Excavation Mead and Braley, Standing Seam Roofing
New Horizons Hairstylists Park ‘N Go Markets Perkins Property Maintenance
Pizza Chef of Andover Stephen Barton and Sons Carpentry
Subway of New London and West Lebanon

Each of the 34 individuals or families who supported our map, made a contribution to helping feed our EMS, fireman and police during an emergency!  Our fundraising efforts are helping to go towards the food and drink the Auxiliary brings to our Andover emergency responders. Typically during an emergency such as a fire, we have mutual aid responding to help us out.   During a first alarm building fire, we may feed 50 firemen. When Proctor’s dorm was on fire, we went to a 3rd alarm and we fed and hydrated an estimated 100 responders, workers and volunteers from 14 other towns responding as mutual aid.  Our efforts are also going towards the purchasing of the items we need to feed our crews on scene. We have had some fantastic RED coffee carafes donated and we have purchased coffee pots, griddles, kitchen utensils, and much more. We are thankful for the donations to our Auxiliary and to our Emergency Departments.

While we were so thankful for all of our 34 supporters of our map, we certainly urge the many others who had yard sales on the same day, to jump in and help in our fundraising efforts in 2019!
I think our town is pretty special! Not all towns have an Auxiliary that takes care of their responders, even at 2:30 am! Thank you for your support!
