Sandra Graves has been my library Board of Trustees buddy for four years, and in that time I have relied on her financial expertise, her experience with library operations, and her vast knowledge of literature. Thirty three years she has been a trustee, as long as Tay Clark was the Andover Public Library librarian, and I expect Sandra will continue to attend our meetings as an informed member of the public, especially as we “have grown accustomed to her face.” Thank you many times over for all of your contributions.
Both Tay and Sandra oversaw the renovation of the Town Hall/Library facilities, which included an expansion of space and collection development, all for the good of the community. In the Bachelder Library, the community may also appreciate the two pieces given by the Creative Arts Association: the Winslow Eaves sculpture and a painting by AnnaLeida Van’t Hoff, both acquisitions under Sandra’s trusteeship.
Finally, we move to the heart of the matter — books. Sandra and I share two favorites: Life Work by Donald Hall, and Green Dolphin Street by Elizabeth Goudge, but there’s no denying one’s heritage. For really good reads, she recommends Thomas Cahill’s How the Irish Saved Civilization, and Edward Rutherfurd’s Sarum: The Novel of England. And throw in a dash of May Sarton for good measure!
