The Town of Andover and Proctor Academy have worked together to significantly upgrade the outdoor electric service on the Village Green, just in time for Andover’s annual Fourth of July celebration.

The service was upgraded from 100 amps to 200 amps, the power box was upgraded, the existing underground outlets on the west end of the Green were fixed, eight new underground power outlets were added on the east end of the Green, and a 220-volt outlet was added to handle higher voltage needs.

New electrical code requirements call for the power box to be at least ten feet from the utility pole, so the power box was moved off the utility pole to a backing board supported by two 4×4 posts (on the right in the photo). The side of the board facing the Green will support the power box and outlets; the side facing Main Street will be used as a bulletin board where town events can be posted.

The Town has contracted an electrician to work with NHEC to bring the new 200-amp service down to the power box. An added feature of the work, initiated by Proctor, is the addition of a power supply to the flagpole, where a light will be installed to illuminate the flag at night.

Although the project was initiated by the Town, Proctor Academy went to great expense to provide the labor, equipment, and materials for the ditching, the underground pipe, the underground outlet box, and the backing board and supports. Many thanks to Proctor Academy for their cooperation and effort to get the work done quickly and professionally.
