150th Anniversary Celebrated by Andover Community Church

By Sandy Miller

On Sunday, September 22, the Andover Community Church celebrated its 150th anniversary as a continuous congregation of Christians joined together in faith in the Andover Community (1869 – 2019). What a beautiful day it was with over 100 people attending this special service – worshiping and giving thanks to God for His faithfulness throughout the years! Our service began with Pastor John Wagner having us gather outside the Church and, after a prayer, we formed a procession into the Church singing the hymn, “Oh God, Our Help in Ages Past”.  Bishop emeritus, Rev. Bill Murdoch from the Anglican Diocese of New England gave an inspiring message, hymns of praise were played by guest organist, Liz D’Amico, on our 19th century organ, and our worship team led us in spirited praise and thanksgiving. Greetings were received and some memories shared.

The service concluded with the sacrament of Holy Communion and closed with the hymn, “The Church’s One Foundation is Jesus Christ.” Afterwards, all were invited to fellowship in the Grange Hall to enjoy a meal prepared by members of the Church. Some of those attending told of memories they had of being baptized at the Church, of belonging to the Grange Hall, or attending the schoolhouse building. Old pictures and articles to be shared were available on a table of the Andover Historical Society. To sum it up, it was a wonderful time of remembrance, worship, and rededication of our sanctuary and life together as a church for Christ’s work in the future. A great time was had by all! Many thanks to the Anniversary Committee for all their work.

In other news: A new carpet was installed in the church and a new church sign put up. Other things happening include: Sunday School – Sundays at 10 AM; Prayer Walks for Franklin, Fridays at 5 PM, City Hall; Intercessory Prayer, Saturday mornings 9:30 AM; 2nd Saturdays for Guys – men’s breakfast in the Grange at 8 AM with a guest speaker – next one October 11; Wednesday morning Bible study in the Grange at 9:30 has begun.

Feel free to call the office (735-5160) to speak with Pastor John Wagner for more information about what’s going on at the Church, or if you need help in some way.  Sunday Worship and Sunday School begin at our new time, 10 AM; believers and seekers are always welcome at Andover Community Church.
Thought for the day: Kindness is the oil that takes the friction out of life.
