The Andover Community Hub, in cooperation with the Andover Conservation Commission, is organizing an Earth Day-inspired effort to pick up the litter that’s accumulated along our roads and streets during the winter. Hope you’ll join us!
This is a great chance to get outside and enjoy the spring sunshine while helping to keep Andover beautiful — all while social distancing, of course. Please make sure you wear gloves, don’t touch your face, and stay at least six feet apart. But you can definitely talk, sing or laugh — and have a good time!
WHEN: Anytime Wednesday, April 22, through Sunday, April 26.
WHERE TO GET BAGS: Andover Hub (box on porch), Andover and East Andover Post Offices (in lobby), Bachelder Library in East Andover (box on porch).
WHAT: Choose a stretch of road and pick up any litter you find. If you’re willing to carry several bags and separate any recyclable glass and aluminum, that’s a plus for the environment.
WHEN FINISHED: Take your bags to the Andover Transfer Station during regular hours, Wednesday and Saturday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
FINALLY: Pick up a mystery seedling @ The Hub on Wed. 4/22 or Sat. 4/25 as a token of appreciation. Seedlings will be out from dawn to dusk. Take one home and tend it, plant it in your garden when it’s ready, and see what you’ve got!
For safety’s sake, be extra-careful walking along busy roads. Either park your vehicle in the direction of traffic — flashers on — and keep in front of it and to the side of the road so traffic behind you is warned of your presence. Or walk facing oncoming traffic if you’re separate from your vehicle. Obviously, keep a close eye on any kids who may be helping you!
Please register here and indicate which roads or streets you plan to clean up, as well as to let The Hub know what other kinds of programs and events (perhaps via Zoom while this COVID-19 situation lasts) you might find interesting. It’s not necessary to register but will help us keep track of locations and statistics. Thanks!
