Andover Community Church – September 2020

Congratulations to Irene Jewett on her 99th birthday

By Sandy Miller
Irene Jewett, shown here with her two daughters, turned 99 on July 30. She is known affectionately as “the Mayor” to many in Andover.

Congratulations to Irene Jewett on the celebration of her 99th birthday on July 30. Irene, who lives on Maple Street in East Andover, has been a member of the Church for about 75 years and has been active in both the Church and town affairs. She is affectionately known as “the Mayor.”  The Church congregation went to her house following the service on July 26 to “sing birthday carols” and pray our best wishes to her and present her with a cake. Happy birthday, Irene!

Our Church picnic was held on Sunday, August 16, following the 10 AM service outside the Church with approximately 25 people enjoying the fellowship and food provided by the Executive Committee and those attending the picnic. Pictures of the picnic can be seen on our website.

The Church supports one mission project per month.  For the month of August, we encourage the support of our own ministry, which takes place Friday nights for prayers and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 PM in Franklin at the recently renovated Franklin Falls Park on Central Street.  Those who show up are provided with a meal of sandwiches, cookies, etc. as well as words of encouragement and prayer.

Donations of money, bottled water, and trial-size containers of shampoo and soaps are needed and very much appreciated.  This mission is run under the direction of Linda Wickstrom at 455-1467 and Linda McGrail at 934-3896. Most Wednesdays, co-pastors Bill and Cinnamon Blomquist are there and play their instruments (flute and guitar).  Please call one of these ladies to let them know how you can help out.

The Church continues to hold two services on Sunday — one at 8 AM and one at 10 AM.  The 8 AM service runs about an hour. It is a contemplative service with some silence and Holy Communion.  The 10 AM service is a bit livelier, with music and children, and celebrates communion the first and third Sundays of the month.  This service is additionally Zoomed on our website.

Our monthly flea markets continue to be held the last Saturday of each month  Watch for signs.  Contact Donna Thompson at 744-6848 for further information.

Remember, you are always welcome at the Andover Community Church.  Feel free to call the Church Office at 735-5160 to speak with Pastor Bill Blomquist for more information on what’s going on at the Church, or check out our website at  AndoverCommunityNH.org.

Thought for the day: “One thing you can learn by watching the clock is that it passes time by keeping its hands busy.” Read Proverbs 18:9.
