I am running for a full term as your Merrimack County Commissioner after being appointed to fill a vacancy in December 2019. I waselected last year unanimously by Merrimack County legislators.
I have long had an interest in county government going back to 1976. I was a student intern in the commissioner’s office and have served as a state representative, Franklin’s youngest mayor, county treasurer, and a commissioner.
I recently retired after running my own business for over 40 years. I am a lifelong county resident, considering myself a “neighbor” to Andover and the many friends I am fortunate to have there. I have been married to my wife Kerry for 35 years, and we have one son and one grandson.
The COVID-19 virus has posed many challenges to county government and its 800+ employees as we strive to keep the residents of our Merrimack County Nursing Home safe. The Nursing Home and Corrections Department in Boscawen have adapted well, as have the other county departments, including those that deal with the public directly: the Registry of Deeds and the Sheriff’s Office.
The County Commissioners are currently drafting the 2021 budget. Our goal is to continue the successful programs we are proud of, dealing with juveniles, the incarcerated, and those who need long-term care.
Our proposed budget, reducing property taxes in 2021, will continue valuable county services.
Please help me to continue to work for the citizens of Merrimack County. I would appreciate your vote on November 3.
