General Election 2020 – Candidate for State Representative Merrimack 25

Democratic – Faith Minton

By Faith Minton

New Hampshire should be a place where families want to live. As our population ages we must work to keep young families here. Our current system of  funding public education, relying on local property taxes, hurts retired residents and those on a fixed income. There are huge inequities in the state, and it should not matter in which ZIP code a child resides; all our children should have access to quality education. We need to increase adequacy grants to our school districts.

Climate change poses very real threats to the good life we enjoy here in New Hampshire. Greater extremes of heat and rain directly threaten tourism, hunting, fishing, the ski industry, and local farms. Diseases spread by deer ticks and other parasites are becoming more common as their habitable range extends north.

Unfortunately, in recent years New Hampshire has fallen behind our neighbors at the expense of both jobs and our public health. While the rest of the world moves toward cutting edge solutions, we are the only state in New England losing solar industry jobs. We rank last in the Northeast in building efficiency, but first in asthma-related hospital visits.

As your representative I promise to support legislation that advances clean energy and transportation, as well as healthy buildings, water, and air. I will do my best to protect your health and defend the environment that our economy relies on in the long term.

I hope our General Court looks at all revenue sources for New Hampshire, prioritizes needs, and works together to fund the most critical issues which may at this time be unforeseen, due to the pandemic.
