Jared E. Parr, 66, of Rochester, died suddenly Wednesday, December 16, 2020. He was born in Pittsburgh, on July 22, 1954, the third of eight children, of the late Rev. Alastair C. Parr and the late Sylvia Hanna Parr.
Though he lived other places growing up, he always considered “home” to be Cambridge, New York, a place where he developed his abiding love of nature and built lasting friendships. His family moved to Maryland late in his high school years when his father accepted a role as minister at Wheaton Presbyterian Church; he lived there until choosing New Hampshire as his home in 1987.
Jared had an entrepreneurial spirit and drive to match it. He was in the tree business at a young age – a fearless, albeit very careful, tree climber working for others and for himself. Later, he earned an Associate’s Degree in electrical engineering which led him to fascinating work at the Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland.
In New Hampshire, Jared worked for Barlo Signs for over 20 years, advancing to project manager there. He loved sign work. Every bit of it. He made a career change twelve years ago, starting with Bankers Life and Casualty, then with MassMutual, before joining Gateway Retirement Solutions in Dover, as an independent financial representative and insurance agent. He truly loved his work, because he cared deeply for his clients and helped them with so many aspects of their insurance and other retirement planning.
While Jared had a strong work ethic and affinity for his profession, nothing matched his enduring love for his family. Love was his reason for being. A man of quiet and deep faith, he loved fiercely, was moved to tears easily, and laughed loudly. His family will miss him very much.
Jared is survived by his wife, Jane Driscoll of Rochester; his son Jeremy Parr and his wife, Tia, of Andover, and their five children, Rachel, Haylee, Andrew, Hannah, and Gavin; his son Jacob Parr of Waldorf, Maryland; and his daughter Madison Parr of Somersworth. Jared is also survived by five of his siblings and their families: his brother George Parr and his wife Kathleen of Portland, Maine; his sister Alison Parr Jefferson and husband Jay of Silver Springs, Maryland; his brother Thaddeus Parr and his wife Mandy of Horse Shoe, North Carolina; his sister Clarissa Parr Sweeney and her husband John of Wells, Maine; his brother Malcolm Parr of Rapid City, South Dakota, and 14 nieces and nephews and their families.
His sisters, Rachel Parr Gordon and Annie Maxwell Parr predeceased him.
Arrangements are by H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral Service in Rochester. Services for Jared will be private.
In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a charitable contribution in his memory to Goodwill Northern New England, 34 Hutcherson Drive, Gorham, ME 04038. Goodwillnne.org.
