Lila Elaine (Stewart) Miller, died peacefully in her home on January 25, 2021 at the age of 87. Lila was born on July 7, 1933 in Danbury to Robert and Lillian (Ford) Stewart. She attended schools in Danbury and Andover and graduated from Andover High School in 1951.
On December 25, 1952, Lila married Frederick Miller. After his time in the USAF, they built a house in East Andover where they raised a family. After Fred’s death in 1980, Lila remained in the home with her youngest daughter and family: Candi, Todd and Kendra. Lila continued to raise a family there for 65 years. She will always be remembered as a generous and devoted mother and grandmother.
Lila loved being outdoors. In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing and often got up early to cast a line from the culvert at Highland Lake or the bridge at Mountain Brook. On many weekends throughout her life, she spent time with family at the Ford Mill, walking the boundary lines and cutting back the bushes. She always enjoyed a mill hotdog. She loved the Ford Mill.
Lila had many interests. She enjoyed writing. She liked to build or repair things and was adept at using a hammer and saw. She found entertainment in mischievous grandkids and pets. Louie, the long-haired yellow cat, gave her much peace and comfort at the end of her life.
Lila liked sports. In her youth, she was an outstanding basketball player. She scored 236 points for her team at Andover High School in her senior year and continued to enjoy the game throughout her life, especially women’s college basketball.
Lila is predeceased by her husband, Frederick C. Miller of East Andover; her parents, Robert and Lillian (Ford) Stewart of Danbury; a sister, Barbara (Stewart) Fosie of Boscawen; a sister, Jean (Stewart) Barker of Boscawen; and a brother, Robert Stewart, Jr. of North Wilmot. Her daughter, Debra (Miller) Chamberlin, died in 1976.
Lila leaves behind a loving family: Candi and Todd Adams of East Andover; Kendra Adams and Jason Day of Franklin; Sandy and Doug Morin of Franklin; Matt and Lauren Morin of Bradford, Massachusetts; Mandy and Kier Byrnes of Medford, Massachusetts (Aedan, Caela, Breacan); and Sheree and David Miller of East Andover; Jeff and Diane Miller of Andover (Tom, Steve, Brenden and Mike); Brandie and Todd Kramer of Portsmouth (Marek); cousins; and many special nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be in the spring in Lakeside Cemetery in East Andover. The family asks anyone who would like to celebrate Lila’s life to spend time with their family, take a walk in the woods, go fishing, shoot some hoops, or donate to your local animal shelter.
