The Andover libraries are here for you! After surviving a few days of over 90 degrees in May, and two “official” heat waves in June, please keep in mind that both Andover libraries have air conditioning and you are always welcome to come by, stay as long as you would like, and cool down. Feel free to use our computers, access your email with our wifi, learn how to use Libby, read a magazine, check out books, CDs or DVDs … or just sit, relax, and cool down.
Special Events
On Monday, August 16, at 6:30 PM in Proctor’s Stone Chapel, Andover author Amy Makechnie will talk about her new middle school novel, Ten Thousand Tries. This is her second novel, and it has already been selected by Amazon as a “Best of July” pick.
Please come, bring your kids, and enjoy listening to Andover’s own Amy Makechnie. Refreshments will be served, and you will be able to purchase a signed copy of Amy’s book.
On Saturday, August 21, starting at 8:30 AM, the Andover Libraries will sponsor a field trip to the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center as part of the summer reading theme of “Tails and Tales.” We will attend an hour-long presentation, and after the presentation we can spend as much time as we’d like on the live animal and hiking trails.
The libraries will cover the cost of tickets for all children who attend. If funding and the group size allows, we will be able to cover the cost of the adults as well: $19 per person.
We will meet at the Andover Library at 8:30 AM and caravan to the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center. Bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it! All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please let Priscilla or Lee know if you plan on attending, and let us know if you have any questions.
Summer Reading: All library patrons high-school aged and younger are eligible to take part in the Summer Reading Program. If you would like to take part, please be sure to register with Priscilla or Lee. Once you are registered, you will receive a raffle ticket every time you check out materials from the library.
At the end of the summer, we will select winners who will receive gift certificates from Naughty Nellie’s or from Pizza Chef. The more you read, the greater your chances of winning. Sign up and start reading!
State Park Passes: Don’t forget that we have passes to most of the New Hampshire State Parks. You do need to plan ahead and request the pass at least one day before you plan to go to the park.
Be sure to let us know if there are any titles you’d like us to order.
