Martin Harry Jewell Thisell, “Marty,” went home to be with his Lord on January 27, 2022 after a long battle with health-related issues resulting from contracting polio as a young child, including kidney disease and failure. He was born to Maurice and Marjory (Davis) Thisell on April 1, 1957.
He worked at Webster Valve in Franklin for 29 years. Because he was so fond of them, Marty considered his co-workers at Webster Valve his second family.
Marty will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind man, with unique ideas and opinions on many things, approaching tasks with a varied, unusual slant. He was an amazing brother and uncle who didn’t let anything stop him from living life his way. He inspired many of us with his perseverance and determination. He lived his life simply, not needing extravagant things.
Marty built his parents’ home with some help, after it was destroyed by fire. Marty then built his own house, again, with help from family and friends.
His family will remember Marty as a very generous, giving man, generally placing the needs of others before his own needs. He valued hard work and honesty. Marty loved music and played bass guitar in his sister’s (Shirley) country and western band.
Marty was predeceased by his parents, Marjory and Maurice Thisell, and his sister, Maurine Lamos, and nephew, Brent Lamos. He is survived by two brothers and their wives: Milton and Margaret Thisell; and Myron and Janice Thisell.
He leaves behind sisters Shirley Thisell, Norma and Richard Kimball, Roselyn Brackett, Carol and Howard Towne, and Birdie and Warren George. He leaves many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. At Marty’s request, there will be no funeral service.
