Even if you haven’t heard of barre yourself, its reputation as a workout with amazing results has been widespread since its development in the 1950s as practiced by Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and, more recently, by actress Natalie Portman. It’s a workout that strengthens the whole body with low-impact, high-intensity movements set to upbeat music, often described as a combination of ballet, yoga, and Pilates.
Certified barre and yoga teacher Liz Dyment of Wilmot (pictured above in the Hub’s studio) is now offering two 45-minute “Mind Body Barre” classes each week at the Andover Community Hub: Tuesdays at 8:30 AM and Thursdays at 11:45 AM. Liz challenges participants to come to two “Mind Body Barre” classes each week for three weeks to feel more energized and stronger.
Immediately following “Mind Body Barre” on both days is a 45-minute “Slow Flow Yoga” class, also taught by Liz. Participants are welcome to take part in either or both. All her classes are offered on a drop-in basis, “by donation,” with no set fee. For more information and to check out the live-streaming option for her classes, readers can go to Liz’s Facebook page, her website at LizDyment.com, or contact her at LizDyment@nullgmail.com.
