Proctor Academy’s Johnson Family Sugar House was in full swing throughout the month of March and into early April, bottling about 45 gallons of syrup over the course of the season, while also giving away quite a few samples and maple candy.
Proctor’s Woodlands Manager and Forestry Teacher Laura Ostrowsky led the operation on campus with significant help from Chris Jones ‘04 and Jim Cox. The group hung 100 buckets around campus and 125 taps on tubing in the sugarbush by the Proctor Ski Area this year. As is always the case, more than two dozen students were involved in the sugaring operation this year through the school’s Project Period, Woods Team, and Forest Science class.
Overall, it was a fantastic season! Proctor syrup is for sale in the Proctor Bookstore in Maxwell Savage Hall.
