Mountain Mucker 5K Obstacle Race at Mount Sunapee

Saturday, June 1

Press release

The Second Annual Mountain Mucker 5K Obstacle Race will be held at Mount Sunapee Resort on Saturday, June 1. Fourteen obstacles must be negotiated along a 5K course that winds up and down the slopes of Mount Sunapee. While individuals are welcome to enter, this is primarily a team event. It will take strength, stamina, balance, brainpower, and teammates to get through the course. Eighty-three teams are already signed up for the race.

For those who think 5K isn’t enough, additional loops with three extra obstacles have been added. The 5K Mountain Mucker Obstacle Race is open to anyone ages 12 and over. Ages 12 through 14 must be accompanied on the course by an adult.

Mountain Mucker is more than just an extreme obstacle race – it is an all-day festival for the whole family. There will be live music by the Dead Blues Society and Flipper Dave, plus an air guitar contest, with the winner receiving a guitar donated by Rondo Music. Small children can get into the action too: There’s a Micro Mucker quarter-mile obstacle course for kids ages five to seven and a Mini Mucker ¾-mile course for kids ages eight through 11. The kids’ courses will include an inflatable obstacle course, which will also be open to the public.

Food and beverage will be for sale by Mount Sunapee and all competitors age 21 and over will receive an ice cold Harpoon beer at the finish of the race.

Athletes go off in flights that start every half hour, beginning at 8:30 AM. The Micro Mucker race is scheduled for 10 AM, and the Mini Mucker starts at 12 PM. The entry fee for the 5K Mountain Mucker is $95 through May 28. The Micro Mucker and Mini Mucker races are $25. Athletes should not plan on wearing their favorite workout clothes or shoes, as this event is named Mountain Mucker for a reason. There will be plenty of mud and muck on the course to add to the challenge.

In addition to all the happenings associated with Mountain Mucker, the new Adventure Park at Mount Sunapee will be open, providing even more family activities. The Adventure Park, located on South Peak, features a canopy zip-line tour, aerial challenge course, Segway PT excursions, disc golf, miniature golf, and chairlift rides.

Mountain Mucker is produced by Adrenaline Junkees, a team of locals from the Lake Sunapee Region, spearheaded by Meghan Medbery and Keelin Regan-Reed. A portion of the proceeds is donated to the New England Handicapped Sports Association (NEHSA), which operates out of Mount Sunapee Resort.
