Marilyn Bachelder Gould – February 19, 2023

Marilyn Bachelder Gould, age 90, of Peabody Place, and formerly of Lawrence Street, Andover, and Wayne, New Jersey, died on February 19, 2023, at the Peabody Home in Franklin.

She was born in Concord on January 9, 1933, the daughter of Freeman and Marion (Davis) Bachelder. She graduated from Concord High School in 1952 and went on to secretarial school. She moved to New Jersey in 1953, and lived and raised her family in Wayne, New Jersey.

She was active in her children’s activities, as a sports coach, and in so many other ways to support their interests.  She was an active member at the Packanack Community Church, in the choir and multiple volunteer activities.  Marilyn was a school administrator at Wayne Valley High School in Wayne, New Jersey, before she retired and moved to Andover.

She and her husband, Don, moved to Andover in 1999 and, together, they served tirelessly in the community.  Marilyn was active with the Andover school system, the Andover Public Library, The Andover Beacon, and the Andover Cable TV station, and Don with the Andover Planning Board, Andover School Board, East Andover Village Preschool, and the Andover Historical Society. They also attended the Kearsarge Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Their dedication to the schools and community was unrelenting. Marilyn and Don were honored in 2014 as Citizens of the Year by the Andover School Board.

Her husband, Donald Gould, predeceased her in 2015.  Members of her family surviving include a daughter, Barbara Couturier and her husband Paul of Newton Centre, Massachusetts; two sons, Allen Gould and his wife Joy, of Conway, and Douglas Gould and his wife Hilari, of Wayne, New Jersey; four grandchildren, one great grandchild, two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Saturday, February 25, from 10 to 11 AM at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, and a celebration of Marilyn’s life will follow at 11 AM.
