Andover Historical Society Plans for Summer Fun

Old Time Fair August 6; need volunteers

By Lindsey Schust

After an exciting year in 2022, with the installation of the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire Historic Marker for Richard Potter, the Andover Historical Society gathers people together to start brainstorming for the Old Time Fair 2023, which will happen on Sunday, August 6, from 9 AM to 2 PM. The AHS season begins on May 27 of Memorial Day Weekend, with an open house. The museum building will be open for visitors and tours with AHS volunteer docents Saturdays from 10 AM to 3 PM, and Sundays noon to 3 PM. Organizations can also make arrangements for private tours.

Old Time Fair August 6:
The Fair is the second biggest Andover event, after the Fourth of July celebrations. The Old Time Fair will bring back favorites like hand car rides on the railroad track, food, live music, crafts market, history displays, and onsite tours of the Potter Place Railroad Station, the JC Emons General Store and Potter Place Post Office, tours of the Richard Potter estate grounds and secret garden. This year the AHS is putting together a Fair Planning Committee, and welcomes interested community members to join the committee for this fun event. The AHS is also looking for local business sponsors for the event.

Open House May 27:
On Saturday May 27, AHS will open its doors to the museum in Potter Place and will hold an Open House reception from 10 AM to 3 PM. If you haven’t seen the museum yet, this will be an exciting day to visit.
