Former Town Administrator Makes Right Decision to Retire

By Marjorie Roy

Hello to my Andover friends!  I hope you are all enjoying summer and are able to spend time with family and friends. Those are some of my favorite things about being retired.

I also enjoy being able to travel and spend time at the lake. I recently went to New York City and saw three Broadway shows. It was a whirlwind time with friends, but it was great fun.

I know my retirement happened rather abruptly, but over the last seven years life has been very challenging. From Proctor’s reneging on its promise to make us whole when the Thoreau House fire caused $157,000 of water and smoke damage to our home, Reggie’s death, and everything in between, life has been emotionally trying, and I knew I needed to lighten my load as soon as possible.

So, when I reached the magic age for Social Security, I knew that it was time to experience the more relaxed lifestyle offered by retirement. It was the right decision for me.  My overall health has improved, and life is good.

I thank you for your friendship and cooperation. If you are so inclined, please email me at
