The Andover Historical Society announces that the Tucker Mountain School House will be open for visitors on Sunday, June 9 from 1 to 3 PM. Monthly “Open Houses” will be held on the second Sunday of the month through October. Visits may also be arranged by calling Pat Cutter at 735-5628 or Donna Baker-Hartwell at 735-5586.
The one-room schoolhouse was built in 1837 and served the Tucker Mountain community for 56 years. Visitors will be able to see its sturdy post and beam construction, wide pine black boards, and slanted floors. Hopefully the newly restored window sash will be installed before June 9!
Young visitors and those young at heart will have a chance to make a yarn doll. Yarn dolls were common toys in early days.
School House T-shirts for children are now available for purchase in a variety of colors; greeting cards and magnets are also available for purchase.
To find the school, follow the signs from Rt.11 in East Andover. Pat Baker’s homemade cookies and lemonade will be waiting for you!
