As reported in two previous Beacon articles, the local nine-town volunteer project to produce and install insulating window inserts for local residents is moving ahead under the guidance of two local nonprofits, Kearsarge Neighborhood Partners (KNP) and Kearsarge Climate Action (KCA). A third nonprofit, WindowDressers of Maine, is guiding the effort.
The nine towns participating in the project are Andover, Bradford, Newbury, New London, Sunapee, Springfield, Sutton, Warner, and Wilmot.
As the July Beacon went to press, over a dozen homeowners had signed into the project, and trained volunteers are scheduling home visits to accurately measure windows with laser measuring tools. Final date for ordering window inserts is September 15. Customers will be put on a wait list once 200 window inserts for about 30 families have been ordered.
For information on how to sign up to receive inserts, residents of the nine towns included in the project are invited to contact KCA’s Joe Kubit at jgkubit70@nullgmail.com, or 603 748-4404. Additional information may be available on bulletin boards and information tables in libraries and town offices in the coverage area.
Grant money from the New England-based Grassroots Grow Fund has been awarded to KCA for the project to provide up to ten inserts for free or at reduced cost to assist customers with limited resources.
