Summer is the busiest time on the Trail, both for maintenance work and recreational usage. The FNRT (Friends of the Northern Rail Trail) is happy to report increases in both dimensions. Grants from the New Hampshire Recreational Trails Program are supporting resurfacing in several places in Grafton County; generous donations are supporting a variety of immediately needed safety upgrades in various other locations.
Mowing has been completed along 55 miles of Rail Trail from Boscawen to the Lebanon/Enfield city line. And volunteers — whom we welcome — give their all to tasks as diverse as painting gates, sawing fallen trees, and planting pollinator gardens.
FNRT’s Board Meetings are a monthly event. Done via Zoom, the meetings are open to all with an interest in the Trail, and the Minutes are published on the FNRT website: www.fnrt.org.
Exciting events are on the horizon. A digital mapping service of the Trail will go up on our website, enabling Trail users to track mileage, points of interest, and amenities.
On September 20, our Annual Meeting/Potluck Supper is scheduled to take place. All members, donors, and guests are heartily welcome to attend this event at the Highland Lake Inn in East Andover, where we will quickly vote in the Board for next year, and then conviviate at the traditional Potluck Supper (do bring a dish!).
There is much more news to be found in the FNRT Newsletter, as well as a link to volunteer opportunities and full information about the Trail on the FNRT website. And as to the Trail itself, we say: “Get On It!”
