Love Games? The Hub Provides Opportunities to Play

Mah Jongg, Bingo, board games, cards etc.

Press Release

Opportunities for playing all sorts of games are available this fall at The Andover Community
Hub, from Bingo to Mah Jongg, to board games, to cards. Some are starting back up after a
summer break, and some are new offerings.

An informal weekly Bingo game starts again on Tuesday, September 5, 1 to 3 PM, organized by Barbara Wiggin. Participants each put $5 in the pot (preferably $1 bills) at the beginning; the pot will be divided among the winners of each round at the end of play. Ten rounds are played.

An opportunity to learn American Mah Jongg —  a fun game of skill, strategy, and luck based on
the ancient Chinese game played with tiles — will start on Tuesday, September 12, and meet on four consecutive Tuesdays, 10 to Noon. This class will be taught by area residents Diane Beaudoin and Ellie Gregor, both of whom admit to being “hooked on Mah Jongg.”

Participants play in groups of two to four; partners aren’t needed. The fee for the series is $20 (plus $10 for an individual Mah Jongg card if participants don’t already have one); the deadline to register is Tuesday, September 5. Mah Jongg sets will be provided and available for future play as well.

The Andover Card Sharks, under the leadership of Andover resident Leland Schneider, will
resume playing on Thursday, September 7. This drop-in group plays friendly card games weekly on Mondays and Thursdays during the drop-in Coffee Hour from 10 to 11 AM at The Hub. A sociable and informal group, the Card Sharks play a variety of card games.

An evening opportunity to play modern board games such as Catan, Ticket to Ride, or Everdell
will hopefully start by late September. Andover resident Abel Broughton is organizing a board
game club open to all who would like to play, whether on a drop-in or regular basis. He asks
that interested people contact him at hubtabletop@nullgmail.com for further details. The evening chosen will depend on what works best for those most interested.
