KARS FOR KEARSARGE: Paving the Road to Independence.

KNP and KREM join forces on this venture

Press Release

IMAGINE TODAY YOU GET IN YOUR CAR, BUT IT WON’T START.  How will you get to work?  Get groceries? Get to medical appointments?  Pick up your child at school or daycare?  In a rural area without public transportation, a personal vehicle is essential to accessing a job and keeping a household operating.

Kearsarge Neighborhood Partners (KNP) and Kearsarge Regional Ecumenical Ministries (KREM) have joined forces on a much-needed transportation venture to help folks in our community called KARS FOR KEARSARGE: Paving the Road to Independence.  Thanks to a very generous car donor, and to our faithful community partner Loaves and Fishes for donating toward the refurbishment of the car, Kars for Kearsarge (K4K) just delivered our FIFTH gifted car to a young mom, who will now have the transportation she needs to get a job and take her child to school.  We have also helped two households buy a reliable used car, and two households to repair their existing vehicle.

THE KARS FOR KEARSARGE PROGRAM collaborates with qualified people in the Kearsarge region to help them find a reliable used car, or to repair their existing vehicle.  With a thorough application process, including a financial review and ongoing mentoring by KNP advocates, candidates must show their ability to cover the costs of owning and operating a car.

YOU CAN HELP by letting friends and neighbors know that they can consider gifting a car they no longer use or that they’re planning to trade in.  K4K can even help sell a car so that the owner can donate the proceeds to help a neighbor in need repair an existing vehicle, or purchase a used car.
