On Monday, September 25, the Andover Libraries recognized two young patrons who completed the challenge of reading 1,000 books
before kindergarten. Oliver Perkins, son of Tiffany and Andrew Perkins, and Eila Ware, daughter of Lesley and Thomas Ware, each received a 1,000 Books Crown, a certificate, and a special prize book. Friends and family who came to celebrate their accomplishments enjoyed cookies and lemonade.
The national early literacy program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is designed to help get kids ready for Kindergarten and help make learning to read easier. It is an easy goal to accomplish!
Even if your child will be entering Kindergarten next fall, by reading three or four books at bedtime starting now, you’ll easily read 1,000 books by the end of the summer. If you’d like to enroll your child in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program, please speak with Michaela Hoover, Director of the Andover Libraries.
