Residents interested in joining a study group to learn about the butterflies native to this region of New Hampshire are invited to attend monthly gatherings of the Lake Sunapee Butterfly Club to be held at The Andover Community Hub, 157 Main Street, Andover. This series will start on Thursday, January 18, 6-7:30 PM and will continue monthly on the third Thursday through July (with the exception of March which will be the second Thursday).
Led by local butterfly expert Amy Highstrom, who spoke last spring at The Hub, this is a citizen-science adult-learning series, preparing local participants to have the knowledge and skills to help with local butterfly counts next summer, if they so choose. The series is endorsed by NH Fish and Game NonGame Wildlife Program in partnership with Ausbon-Sargent Land Preservation Trust. Those interested are welcome to contact the instructor at amy.highstrom@nullgmail.com for further information, or to just show up on January 18!
The group is open to all levels, beginners to advanced, and to those who would like to learn a few species for fun, as well as to those who are serious about learning the skills necessary to identify butterflies that might be seen at a local count next summer. All are welcome.
