Mrs. Hildebrand has been a part of the AE/MS community for a remarkable 47 years. For at least 34 of them, she has worked with her second grade students on what has become a much anticipated event each year, the Halloween play.
This year, the play was about an evil zombie scientist – Dr. Hildebrand – who wanted to turn the whole world into zombies. A cast of characters created a potion to stop the zombies. In the end, everyone was okay and they got to celebrate Halloween.
When asked what was the best part about doing this play each year, Mrs. Hildebrand said, “The community of creative writers, brave speakers, challenged readers, artists, and the TEAM that emerges when the kids do what they never thought they could do.” It only took this group three weeks to put it all together.
Mrs. Hildebrand added, “This has been one of the highlights of my teaching, year after year. I sincerely hope that teachers in the future will make the time to undertake similar projects because the students benefit in every way from the struggle, practice, and eventual success they reach from doing it.” Yes, you heard that right…future teachers. After almost half a century of teaching behind her, Mrs. Hildebrand will be retiring at the end of this school year.
