After a four-year hiatus, the Wilmot Community Association (WCA)’s Black Fly Blitz is back! Come join the fun along with other runners and walkers for the WCA’s 16th Black Fly Blitz 5K run/walk. The event starts at 9 AM on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, in Wilmot.
Pinnacle Timing of Newport, www.pinnaclestrive.com, is handling online registration and will time the race on Memorial Day. You can register at www.wilmotwca.org or at www.pinnaclestrive.com until 5 PM Saturday, May 25. Participants can purchase their “Blitz” T-shirts for $10 until April 30.
Until May 25, race registration is free for children 11 years and younger and $25 for everyone 12 and older. On race day, registration will increase by $5 for everyone 12 and older. Check-in and day-of-race registration opens at 7:30 AM, Monday, May 27, under the tent on the Town Green, at the intersection of Kearsarge Valley and Village roads in Wilmot Flat. For the safety of participants, please leave your dog at home.
“Registrations are rolling in for this popular, community-based 5K,” said Marc Davis, co-race director. “If you want an iconic Blitz T-shirt, they will be available. But because the price of T- shirts has escalated, we are asking participants to pay a portion of the cost. You’ll see this as an additional item when you register.”
The 3.1-mile, 5K scenic course is a clockwise loop that starts on Village Road and continues on Shindagan, Cross Hill, and Campground Roads and ends near the Town Green on Village Road. It is a relatively flat course over slightly undulating terrain. Runners will receive free beverages and snacks after the race.
The Black Fly Blitz is the WCA’s largest fundraising event of the year. Proceeds support the organization’s free programs and operations. The Wilmot Community Association enriches community life through social, recreational, and educational activities.
